Old, worn deck boards have a way of making an otherwise solid deck feel like a liability. Soft spots, splinters, graying wood - it all adds up. At some point, a coat of stain just isn't going to cut it anymore. That's when a full board replacement is the right call.

That's exactly what we did here. We pulled up the old decking and replaced every board with fresh cedar. Cedar is a great choice for this kind of work - it's naturally resistant to moisture and insects, it holds up well through season changes, and it looks sharp when it's new.

What we ended up with is a deck that feels completely different underfoot. Even with the existing railing and frame staying in place, swapping out the decking surface alone makes the whole structure look and feel brand new. It's one of those upgrades that has a big visual payoff without touching the bones of the deck.

We take care to lay boards with consistent spacing and make sure everything is fastened down properly - no popped nails or boards that shift under your feet. The details matter on a job like this, because a deck gets used hard. It needs to hold up, not just look good on day one.

If your deck is starting to feel tired or you're noticing boards that are soft, cracked, or pulling away, a board replacement might be all you need. No reason to tear down a structurally sound deck when the fix can be this straightforward.
